practical examples of working with NEWLY APPEARED teaching aids for textbooks “Aha, Slovak!” and “The world around us in Slovak.”

Dear primary school and kindergarten teachers, professional community, dear fans of the iCan language school,

We inform you that on November 2 and 3, 2023, our school hosted a successful two-day training seminar for teaching staff using methodological and didactic materials created as a result of the project “Slovak language for foreign children” - teaching aids, manuals. and manuals on the use of didactic materials for the inclusion of children in the educational process in the Slovak Republic.
We organized a seminar for our partners collaborating in the project - foreign educational centers Petit Slavic from Paris, eMeLeS from Dublin and the Czech-Slovak Club from Birmingham, as well as NIVaM experts. Our efforts also included promoting new teaching aids and additional educational materials - illustrated (communication) maps among the wider professional community. Therefore, we implemented the seminar in a hybrid form. We made the entire training available to teachers and principals of primary schools and kindergartens who expressed interest in the workshop and took part in the workshop online. We were pleased that 20 kindergarten teachers signed up for the first day of training, and 18 primary school teachers signed up for the second day of training. Various schools in Slovakia showed interest.
About 30 participants attended the seminar in person each day. From abroad came 8 teachers from the educational center Petit Slavic, Paris, 7 teachers from the educational center from Birmingham and three teachers from the educational center from Dublin. Also present were three experts from the National Institute of Education and Youth, as well as our partners from the kindergarten and ZŠ Odborárska 2, Bratislava, who know our textbooks and new aids well, since, like our foreign partners, they tested and commented on them. specifically in the classroom in the process of creation.

The purpose of the training was:

- inform about the progress of work on individual results of the project and agree on a schedule so that we can complete the work on teaching aids for the textbook Aha, Slovak! and complete the workbook “The World Around Us in Slovak" by the end of February 2024,

- inform the general professional community that at the end of February 2024, along with Slovak language textbooks for foreign children, teaching aids will be available that will guide teachers and provide them with instructions on how to work with individual exercises,

- inform the general professional community about the upcoming additional didactic material and the wide possibilities of its use - - cards with pictures. A methodological guide has also been compiled for the cards, containing instructions for teachers on how to work with the cards and what range of possibilities they provide.

- notify the pedagogical community that part of the methodological manual is also a part devoted to practicing literary pronunciation and spelling, and the exercises belonging to this section are also available in recording,

- inform teachers working in classes with children of foreigners that they also have a self-assessment test that the child can take after completing the Slovak language course and will be assessed on how much he has mastered the subject necessary to achieve proficiency in the language. level A1 language proficiency according to SERR.

The lecturers were the authors of textbooks and the authors of teaching aids for textbooks Ulichna, p. You see, Mr. Hirschnerova and Mr. Gregory. In his lecture, P. Karol Czyba from NIVaM presented several educational activities and teaching aids that can be used to learn the Slovak language while working with picture cards for preschool and school-aged children. He also touched upon the topic of the educational standard as a second language, approved as an addition to the current school education program.

We are pleased that the feedback from the teachers present was only positive; according to the teachers, this two-day training brought great benefits to those present in working with textbooks "Aha, Slovak!" and "The world around us in Slovak."

We completed all our studies in a pleasant atmosphere at a nearby restaurant during a work lunch.

In conclusion, here are some photos of the atmosphere during our training. We also add presentations presented at the training.
