Travelling around Slovakia

iCan club 2022 - Travelling around Slovakia was created in cooperation with the Office of Foreign Slovaks, which partly finances this project and is intended for children in preschool age and 1 stage of Primary school children from the compatriot communities in the west of Slovakia. Through cooperation with educational centres and regional associations, we will involve them in informal education and the consolidation of language skills in their mother tongue.


Content preparation for online iCan Club lessons consists of 4 meetings, each lasting two 45-minute lessons. We look forward to seeing you and inviting you to join us for 4 meetings:

• Bratislava and surroundings,
• Western Slovakia,
• Central Slovakia,
• Eastern Slovakia.

In terms of content, children through exercises, interactive games, learning about the realities through online sightseeing tours of the region in an entertaining way strengthen linguistic skills in their mother tongue, learn about the geography, realities and culture of Slovakia and thus build their national awareness.

We see the benefit of the project in linking direct language education in the weekend schools of the educational centres with indirect education through online meetings in the iCan kids club, strengthening children's linguistic skills in their mother tongue, in the development of children's national awareness through getting to know the regions of Slovakia, interesting geographic features, learning about important historical landmarks, cultural figures, folklore and so on.

Another benefit is that children get to know each other across the expatriate communities within a group of countries. There is also the advantage that all indirect education is moved online and is therefore not dependent on the possible worsening of the epidemiological situation at the time of the Coronavirus crisis.
