The 2023/24 school year is coming to a close, bringing many new developments to our school.
For example:
- Establishing collaboration with the Digital Coalition and participating in the project "Digital Ukrainian Student";
- The collaboration of the school director, Ms. Alona Kurotova, with the Office of the Commissioner for Children's Rights, primarily aimed at supporting Ukrainian and Roma children;
- The successful completion of the second project supported by the Erasmus+ program, focused on creating didactic and methodological materials in Slovak for children speaking other languages.
It’s hard to believe, but nearly six years have passed since we began working on the topic of educating foreign children. This is quite a long time for both the life of a school and for a student and teacher. However, if everything is organized properly, six years of systematic work can yield real results. And I would like to inform you about such results.
What have our projects brought us—creators, parents, students, and teachers?
- Every teacher who teaches Slovak as a foreign language will surely appreciate the fact that, after a long absence of educational materials for this target audience, they now have a textbook at their disposal, containing approximately 450 exercises, over 200 audio recordings, and two workbooks full of creative tasks.
- For toddlers in kindergartens, we have prepared a brightly illustrated workbook with stickers and audio recordings of poems and songs.
- The textbooks "Aha, slovenčina!" and the workbook "Svet okolo nás po slovensky" have received recommendations from the Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sports of the Slovak Republic. Subsidies can be obtained from the Ministry of Education for the textbook "Aha, slovenčina!"
- For primary school students, our project team has developed bilingual dictionaries with illustrated appendices in 10 language versions.
- It is also worth mentioning the textbook "Slovak Language and Literature in School," intended for students in grades 2-9 of primary school, as well as for those preparing for commission exams to advance to the next grade.
In the second project, we focused on creating methodological materials to provide teachers with the right key to implementing individual exercises. The methodological guides for the textbook "Aha, slovenčina!" and the workbook "Svet okolo nás po slovensky" can be used by teachers for FREE.
And that’s not all. In addition to textbooks and workbooks, we have prepared illustrated flashcards for students, which they can use in class under the guidance of the teacher, as well as at home with their parents, since the set of flashcards includes a folder for the student and an additional set for the teacher to use in lessons.

We are pleased that our efforts are also appreciated, and we received the "European Language Label 2022" award for it.
However, the greatest reward for us is the feedback from satisfied students, their parents, and educators.
This motivates us to continue working.
But now summer is upon us, a time for rest. So, dear teachers and students, enjoy your well-deserved vacation! We will reach out to you again in the new school year. We hope to continue the theme of "Slovak for Foreign Children" and delight you with new ideas.
Wishing you a wonderful summer!
